This past Thursday, I met with the coordinator for the upcoming Sesquicentennial Celebration for Wyandotte County, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, June 6th and 7th at Wyandotte County Park, 126th and State Ave. in Bonner Springs, KS. Celebration events will be held Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 to 2:30 p.m. and will include concerts, dances, exhibits and educational and fun activities for the whole family. The intent is to provide a two day historic and educational celebration of the founding of Wyandotte County 150 years ago, this year.
Leadership 2000 has been offered the opportunity to host two fundraising initiatives during the event, which is estimated to draw up to 10,000 visitors over the weekend:
* A table for the sale of Polly's Amazing Journey, a children's storybook about the historic Quindaro Ruins, authored by Gwen Thomas and the class project for Leadership 2000 Class XXI (of which, Gwen is a member); and
* A Candy Shoppe, offering period candies and sweets from 1859, as well as bottled water and flavored teas. Period candies and sweets may include, but are not limited to taffy, mint candies, rock candies, candy sticks, fudges, licorice, candied apples, cookies, dried fruits and berries and nuts. We will be the sole vendor for these items.
